PRODUCTS USED

Flying Bark Productions is a prolific independent producer of international family-focused animation entertainment for over 50 years. They have studio locations in Sydney and LA, and partner studios all around the world. The company has invested significantly in the development of its award-winning original slate with creators around the world, with a priority on diverse animation, visual arts, screenwriting and composing use cases.

The company has been in a consistent project-to-project relationship with DiGiCOR, involving small projects and increasing to bigger projects to date. In this case, they had a specific movie and series case with an international company relating to Channel 10. With our discussion, we understood their main i nfrastructure requirements for their unique post production software.

HIGHLIGHTS

OBJECTIVES

  • Obtain a solution that was highly compatible with Flying Bark’s unique post-production software
  • Provide significant performance improvements to their production use case

HOW WE HELPED

  • Understood their main infrastructure requirements for their unique postproduction software
  • Provided a bundle of A+ BigTwin multi-node servers, fitted with dual 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors and optimised for compute-intensive applications

FEATURED SOLUTIONS

SUPERMICRO A+ 2124BT-HTR

RESULTS

  • Optimised a high computing system that satisfied the rendering and processing workload requirements, supported by the pilot system that they had also initially integrated
  • Satisfy their large processing and rendering workloads within their budget requirements, with the ability to be highly scalable and flexible for future technology refreshes and upgrades.

Challenge and Requirement

As an animation post-production company, Flying Bark work within a production house for channels on television by the process of rendering raw images and the finished product is then presented on television. The company required a solution that was highly compatible with their unique post-production software and provided significant performance improvements to their production use case. This mainly consisted of rendering and processing raw images for animated movies and television series.

How We Assisted

After understanding their requirements, we were able to provide a bundle of A+ BigTwin multi-node servers, fitted with dual 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors and optimised for compute-intensive applications. We recommended this solution as it could flexibly be integrated as a GPU or CPU-based solution to fit their various production workloads. As the server was optimised with 2 nd gen AMD EPYC CPUs, this allowed for better performance and better value for money, overall reducing the licensing cost of the solution.

In addition, the Supermicro Twin architecture has been designed with power and cost efficiency as the maximum compute in a 2U system enables data centre footprints to be reduced by 50% compared to standard 2U servers with equivalent performance. The solution can be highlighted by its configurability of performance and cost efficiency. With consideration towards future scalability and flexibility, the company looked at an additional CPU for 3 nodes due to their extra budget.

Outcomes

We optimised a high compute system that satisfied the rendering and processing workload requirements the company had. This was supported by the pilot system that they had also initially integrated. With our many collaborative projects in the past, we were able to provide a purposeful solution to satisfy their large processing and rendering workloads within their budget requirements, with the ability of being highly scalable and flexible for future technology refreshes and upgrades.

Overall, we have positively assisted the company with previous projects in the past, providing the latest technology in the market such as AMD-optimised solutions and our local high-quality services and support.
